Beautiful view of Denali. That's the positive. The negatives are plenty. Staff not very friendly. Rooms need restoration and are not too clean. Terrible food (we requested redone everything since a medium steak was burned like a shoe and burger was not edible. Second try was only slightly better). The place is full of people from cruises and the whole place have a feel of a cruise ship with organized activities, etc. For some this may be what you are looking for. I was disappointed and would not recommend. The lodge is very nice with a beautiful view of the mountain. Our room on the other hand was old, smelly, worn & far away from everything we wanted to do. One hour south to Talkeetna & 2 hours north to Denali. The staff was nice while & politely worked on many problems with our reservation but spent all of one evening walking back & forth to the front desk to get our cards to open the door. This place is set up for big tour groups who want to sit on a bus for long rides. We will be staying the 2 hours north near the Denali entrance at a much smaller facility on our next visit. For the everyday tourist / first time in Alaska, this is a terrific first stay.... Literally out in the woods with a terrific view of Mt McKinley 40 ? miles away. Kind of a soft "Disney" like camp feeling ... At least you're in the woods Went to Alaska grill. First waitress was great. She left and they forgot about us. Had to talk to supervisor. Free desert and discount for inconvenience. Food was delicious. Service continuity sucked. Nearly identical rooms to the Denali Princess Lodge. Great view of the Alaskan Mountain Range and Denali. Good restaurants. My one complaint is the shower heads in the room. They spray out to the sides and not in the center.
